New research from the European Tissue Symposium has shown there are significant hygiene risks associated with jet air dryers and warm air dryers.
We are launching a new campaign called 'Take Control of Poor Hand Drying' to highlight the issues caused by dirty and unhygienic hands, and raise the importance of hygienic drying.
Poor or inadequate hand drying facilities can:
- Increase the risk of employee sickness
- Assist food contamination C
- Create washroom congestion
- Contribute towards customer dissatisfaction

Paper Hand Towels are considered the most hygienic drying format
- Reduce bacteria by up to 77%
- Can lower the risk of germs and cross-contamination at work
- KLEENEX® and SCOTT® Hand Towels provide a hygienic drying solution.

Jet Air Dryers
- Increase bacteria on the hands by 42%
- Harbour bacteria and blow out bacteria by up to two metres

Warm air dryers
- Increase bacteria on the hands by 254%
- Can create long queues and wet floors in high traffic areas

Linen Towels
- Considered least hygienic to use
- Same area of towel can be used by different people
All data from:
- University of Westminster Study Feb 2009 - Mean percentage figures used to show change in numbers of bacteria
- User Preference Study-Intermetra June 2008 (2000 people surveyed) - Comparison of common drying methods
